Tourbillon
A mechanism in which the balance wheel and escapement are placed inside a rotating cage, usually turning once a minute. Its purpose is to offset the small errors gravity causes when the watch is upright. Today it is valued mostly as a display of craftsmanship, and its rotation can be watched through an opening in the dial.
