Panerai Luminor

Panerai Luminor in brief

Panerai's roots reach back to watches made for Italian navy divers. The Luminor name comes from the luminous material registered in 1949 that glows in the dark; the Luminor case was completed in the 1950s with a bridge protecting the crown.

The large cushion-shaped case, the lever-operated guard bridge that locks the crown and the two-layer "sandwich" dial are the Luminor's signature. Its plain, legible and powerful presence still makes it one of the most recognized dive watches today.

Common references and sizes

Luminor models are mostly seen with 44 mm (e.g. Luminor Marina, Luminor Base), 42 mm and 40 mm cases. The Luminor Due is slimmer; GMT and power reserve models are the more functional versions.

Frequently asked questions

Is 44 mm too large?

The Luminor's character is its large case; but for slim wrists, the 40 and 42 mm models or the slimmer Luminor Due are good options.

Is it easy to change the strap?

Most Panerai models have a quick-change system, and strap collecting is part of the brand's culture.

What is the difference between the Luminor and the Radiomir?

The Luminor has a crown-guard bridge; the Radiomir is an older case design without the bridge and with wire lugs.

Which case sizes does the Panerai Luminor come in?

The catalog currently has case sizes of 40, 42, 44, 47, 50 mm. Our wrist size guide makes it easy to see which one fits your wrist.
