Rolex Day-Date

Rolex Day-Date in brief

The Day-Date was introduced in 1956 as the first wristwatch to show the day of the week spelled out at the top of the dial and the date at 3 o'clock. It soon came to be known as the watch of the business world and of statesmen.

The model is made only in 18 ct gold and 950 platinum; there is no steel Day-Date. The President bracelet with semicircular links was designed for this model and is known by its name. Smooth, fluted or diamond-set bezel options give the same case a different character.

Frequently asked questions

Day-Date 36 or 40?

36 mm is the classic "President" proportion and slips easily under a shirt cuff. 40 mm offers a more noticeable, contemporary look. If your wrist is over 18 cm, 40 mm often sits in better balance.

In which languages can the day be spelled out?

Day-Date day discs have been made in many languages; you can ask on the product pages which day disc a model carries.

What is the difference between the Day-Date and the Datejust?

The Day-Date also spells out the day and is made only in gold or platinum; the Datejust shows only the date and also comes in steel options.

Which case sizes does the Rolex Day-Date come in?

The catalog currently has case sizes of 36, 40 mm. Our wrist size guide makes it easy to see which one fits your wrist.
